The Smith House is famous for much more than serving delicious and abundant family-style meals. For folks planning to stay the night in Dahlonega, our Inn offers newly renovated guest rooms located in The Main House and the cozy Carriage House. Guests who are planning a longer stay have the option of selecting a spacious villa located at Chestatee Village. These villas include two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a balcony overlooking the beautiful and historic town square of Dahlonega. Located next to the Thomas Cottage on North Grove Street the Fitts Cottage is the newest addition to the Smith House lodging.

Hall Merchandise Company. The Hall Block where the store was located is still visible on the town square – with the Hall name shown on top. King Bed in the Lodge
Today, the history of the shaft and many of its contents are on display for our visitors to see. Thelma Welch began introducing new dishes to the menu along with the recipes handed down from previous owners. People traveled from all over country and the world to sample her food. Many would say they waited up to 3 hours on any given Sunday for a feast at her table. After her passing, Frank remarried – to Ester C Hall and planned construction of a home on the plot of land he’d acquired east of the square.
The Smith House & Village & Restaurant
Fame of her cooking quickly spread and people traveled to Dahlonega to experience the Smith’s hospitality. At that time the price of a room and meal was $1.50 a day. For folks planning to stay the night in Dahlonega, our 1899 historic inn has a variety of room sizes located in the Main and Carriage House. Queen rooms, Double rooms, and Suites are available for overnight stays. Former home of a successful Gold Rush baron, The Smith House is now a world class destination for dining and lodging. Located just one block from Dahlonega's historic downtown square, guests can enjoy dining, shopping, a museum and community theater all within a few footsteps.
Carriage House Suite
Esther and Frank became the parents of Frances in 1900. Unfortunately Frank died of Typhoid Fever in 1901 and Esther moved away with her daughter to their other property. For wedding parties or special events, The Smith House offers room blocks for your guests. There is a fee for blocking our rooms that can be applied to any service here at The Smith House. Located at 198 North Grove Street the Welch King Suite is attached to the Welch Cottage, but rented as a separate unit. It offers one King bed, small sitting area, full bath, and private parking.
Come have a meal with us at our family style dinning experience. We're serving up some of the most incredible southern favorites like fried chicken, fresh veggies and homemade condiments like chow-chow. You want to be hungry when you come eat at our table. Room Rates do not include 8% state, 8% local tax, $5/per night transportation tax, and 4% booking fee. If you book thru a travel site, there is a 15% third party booking charge will be added to the stay.
